SARAH WAS ABRAHAM’S BLOOD SISTER

ON TODAY'S SECRET

I'm quite positive our last post came as a surprise to you. Well if it didn't, then today's post should. You know why? Because it is about the fact that;

SARAH WAS ABRAHAM’S BLOOD SISTER

Abraham is regarded as the father of Christians worldwide. He is a much respected figure in the Christian world and is many times preached and used as an example for Christians to follow in their walk with God. In fact, there’s a song we always sang in Sunday school, it goes; father Abraham has many sons, I am one of them and so are you, so let us praise the lord! I’m positive you know this song. What many don’t really say about this figure (most likely because they don’t know) is that he was just like every other person.

One time when Abraham travelled to Gerar, he was asked by the king who the woman with him was, and he said she was his sister (she was actually Sarah, his wife) (Genesis 20:2  http://drbo.org/chapter/01020.htm ). This almost cost him his wife as the king took her for himself but was warned by God in a dream to take her back to Abraham. In Genesis 20; 11 , Abraham confessed to the king, Abimelech, that he only denied being her husband because he didn’t want to be killed for his wife’s sake.

What we may find shocking however, is that Abraham wasn’t telling a lie when he called Sarah his sister in Gerar. He only denied her ‘wife’ status. When king Abimelech approached Abraham after God warned him in his sleep, Abraham gave him the reason he didn’t say Sarah was his wife. He then told the king that he hadn’t lied as Sarah was actually his step sister whom he got married to (Genesis 20;12  http://drbo.org/chapter/01020.htm ). Apparently it was a norm in those days.
and yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife...
At this junction I honestly feel the need to say that, Abraham was a sly guy! I’m sure Abimelech would have thought the exact same thing.
